1. The SCV Mechanized Cavalry Vest (it was actually mostly done before Grandpa went into the hospital, but I did not finish it until after he passed.
As it was a formal event, I decided to wear my 1860 Saratoga-style ball gown. I was the only girl in the room with 5 foot hoops on and I am convinced that it frightened off some of the young gentlemen (who were sorely outnumbered anyway!) and so I ended up dancing quite a few dances with other girls. I don't mind much, really. I love to dance too much to mind. :D But photos naturally and stories.
But first, we went over on Thursday (the ball was Friday evening) and the H's very kindly put us up and I think, attempted to get me to choke on my food again. ;) Anyway...we had a VERY GOOD time just at the H's and I'm pleased that they like us enough to call us honourary family members. (It is mutual, just in case you didn't know.)
Andrew's uniform was made for this occasion...and before I went and got dressed myself, I had to go make sure he had his uniform on right. ;) I mean, naturally, he did, but I did straighten his sash and double-check his sword belt for him...(if you know me very well, you know I like swords...)
Since this was over two weeks ago now, I don't remember all the details, but I know we danced for roughly an hour and then had a short period time in which veterans were honored and prayed for (the living ones, naturally) and then a break for snacks--it was during the break that the following amusing series of photos "happened". Luke was taking my picture.......and saying silly things I am sure.
Because this was over two weeks ago now, I can't remember all the details...but after the break we went back and danced for another hour, hour and a half, two hours--something like that. :D I was really looking forward to doing the last dance (the Scottish Polka), but I had to go collapse against the wall about half way through gasping for air. My corset was just a wee too tight and it's a fast dance (consequently it takes more air) and I was laughing! It was still fun to sit and watch everyone else finish it though.
Clean up after that seemed to go rather quickly and smoothly and we got things loaded up in the rain and headed home to the H's--along with J.A., who did some of the calling. R and another girl, Katie, did the rest of it. That was quite neat the way they alternated callers so each caller also got to dance. :)
It was roughly 2 am (their time) at this point and I was not ready for bed--too wound up I guess, even though I didn't feel wound up. We ended up staying up and watching Kung Fu Panda which I had never seen before (it's got some seriously silly moments) and thus I set a record for myself: 4 am (5 my time) bedtime. I woke up at 6 or 6:30 and got up because I knew I wasn't going to go back to sleep and I might as well not toss around and disturb Katherine. Katherine ended up driving home because by the time we left I was feeling the late night...I mean, early morning hay-hitting and lack of sleep.
Anyway, before getting off this topic, a few more pictures of Andrew's uniform...or maybe they are just of Andrew! :D
Moving on in the list...
4. Doctor's Appointment.
Basically, we're still to keep on as we've been doing, each of us having shown some improvement. I'm back faithfully on my meds (minus weekends when I never seem to get them in over the summer) and dealing with extra foggy brain due to the detoxing. One reason my blog has been quite boring as of late. The other is item #5.
5. Remembering WWII prep.
We're going as vendors again this year and inventory is low...so I've been sewing practically non-stop since we got back from Ohio after our doctor's appointment. Or at least, it seems that way. In addition to RWWII sewing, I have sewing to do for Perryville (coming up in October), our last WBtS's reenactment for the year and a national 'immersion' event. So....sewing is on the list. Things will probably be kind of quiet around here for that reason, so just a heads-up on the radio silence this time, okay? :)
Speaking of sewing...I think I'd better go get back to work! Just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten my little corner of the blogosphere! :)
