A New Stove!!

2/3/2014

The new, ceramic top stove that has been sitting in the kitchen for quite a while finally got put in today! The plan was to take up the carpet in the kitchen first (if I've said it once, I've said it a hundred times--Carpet in the kitchen is NOT a good idea!) and then do all the re-build and rearranging. However, Mama got the bug this afternoon to move it so Granddaddy would quit bumping it with his wheelchair ("might as well get some use out of it before it gets all dinged up!")

So...I pitched in to help. I had just finished reading the first 17 pages of Shelby Foote's The Civil War: A Narrative (vol.1) and felt like I needed to do something semi-active. Granted, I didn't do much to help, but I did do a little bit. I'll narrate as I show the pictures. ;)

Daddy was unhooking the wires from the back of the old one. The very top of a head you see there over the crest of the new one is me--I was cleaning off the back of it before we moved it.
Picture
Ah, here we go! A more sneaky view of both me and Daddy! :D He looks awful short back there...
Picture
Mama held the trash can for him for a little bit...

Scraping what used to be carpet backing off the floor.

Granddaddy asked about supper (it was around 4, I think) and so I fixed him up a chocolate protien shake. When I handed it to him, I asked, "Chocolate counts as food, right?" Naturally, he said, "Yes." This is a man that loves his chocolate!
Picture
Daddy decided to remove his shirt for ease of working (besides, he was probably getting warm in that heavy-duty sweat-shirt...that kind of scraping work heats one up pretty quickly!) and he got a little goofy for the camera. I have the greatest Dad!

*laughs* I didn't know about this picture until I took it off the camera. It looks like Abby was coming on from an on the hind feet inspection of something.

The evil carpet backing (one has to take chemicals to it to finish the job.)

Bye now!

I just thought this was funny. (You do know I have an odd sense of humor, right?)

Daddy removing the nuts...

Tightening the nuts after putting on whatever you call those things...I'm pretty positive they work something like conductors for the wires coming out of the basement which power the stove.
Picture
Stripping wire.
Picture
Attaching the wires. (It almost looks like the insulator is an air-tube for Daddy, doesn't it?)
Picture
Abby was quite curious...
Picture
Tightening screws! (Almost done...)
Picture
I took this one more to show the space he was working in than what he was actually doing.
Picture
A happy Mama with her new stove! (Behind her is the beautiful calander Mrs. S gave us for Christmas...it has lovely Confederate artwork on it and interesting facts on particular dates.)
Picture
For my more "fashion-minded" readers--this is how I wore my hair today. I found the snood in my drawer a couple weeks ago. This was taken this morning, thus the lack of frizz protruding from the holes. I loosely braided my hair before tucking it in there. (You might can tell...)

That's all for now folkies!

I love the new stove in place!!!! A long time ago we had to remove glued down carpet spongy backing in a dining room that was on concrete slab floor. Boiling water from the tea kettle worked great. Let it set for a short time and then scrape. You have wood floors underneath though so that might not be good in your case.

That does sound like a great idea--minus the wood floors. :) It's a nice stove and I used it today!! Oven and all. (I made lunch.)

    The Middle Kid

I chose to title this blog "The Adventures of a Middle Kid" because that is exactly what I'll be detailing (mostly). I chose 'kid' over any other word, like 'girl' (I am the middle girl so it also would have worked) or 'child'
(since I am no longer exactly a child).

    I am a middle kid and I will always be a middle kid--even when I'm 80!
