This morning, I got out there to find the little black and white chicken had likewise been consumed. Well, the roosters had food so I knew they hadn't been pecking on each other because they were hungry. I got into the trailer and started collecting the pieces, when I noticed something. Scat of some sort. It looked like it had mulberries in it...so I picked some up (you can say "GROSS!" if you want to) and sniffed it. Yep, it was mulberries all right.
In other words, I think I had a coon or (perhaps) a possum in there two nights running. I also noticed a place where the netting was bent in, so I wired that better. I also attempted to wire up around the side door better. Hopefully, that'll flumux whatever the critter is and he won't get the novel idea to fall in through the roof. However, if it does, he might get trapped. And then I could shoot him easier!
Anyway, I was unjustly upset at the hospitalized roosters yesterday...they didn't eat my hen afterall! Still, I'm a little sad about her, but such is life and they are just chickens!
