That's right. I found a possum in my trap this morning. I summarily executed the chicken killing critter.
I was aiming for his spine with the first shot, but didn't exactly hit it. He was already collapsing when I went ahead a put another bullet in him, at the base of his skull. After that he just 'melted' over on his side, tongue lolling out between those nasty looking teeth of his. He hardly even twitched.
The rascal was at least 2 feet long from head to tail-tip, but I actually think he might have been a bit longer. My guess would be that he weighed around 15 pounds. (Several of those being the result of eating my chickens I'm sure!)
Anyway, once I saw the possum, my wonderment in how in the world a coon got through some of those holes in the rooster coop cleared up--it's because it was a possum not a coon! I still wonder though how this possum squeezed through some of those holes.
On another note, the hogs have now started digging up the yard. So...I guess that means that this young'un who is ignorant of the finer points of shooting pigs, needs to go hog hunting. However, the idea of sitting in the dark with misquistoes really isn't the most appealing this time of year. Anyway, I'll think on that...
I'm going to go work on fence this afternoon. Maybe I'll get more than a single H-frame completed... :)
